Sarah Dodd was born in Market Drayton, Shropshire in about 1850 (her age fluctuates in the censuses).
By the time of the 1881 census she had come to Oxford to live with her older sister, Mrs Mary Ann Sweatman and her husband William, and she remained in Oxford for the rest of her life. Her age in that census is given as 25, but she was probably about 30. She lived with the Sweatmans first at 134 Walton Street, then at 48 Wellington Square, and finally at 80 St Bernard’s Road.
Sarah probably moved to 98 Southmoor Road to live with her nephew Frederick Sweatman and his family following the death of her sister Mary Ann in August 1922. She died there in 1930, and was buried in an adjoining grave:
† Miss Sarah Dodd died at 98 Southmoor Road at the age of 79 on 6 June 1930 and was buried at St Sepulchre’s Cemetery on 10 June (burial recorded in the parish register of St Giles’s Church).
Her effects came to £328 2s. 1d., and probate was granted to her nephew Frederick
